Saint Francis
(1226 – 2026)
2026 marks 800 years since the death of St. Francis (1226–2026). His life and spirituality have inspired artists for centuries. To commemorate this milestone, the John Henry Newman Cultural Society is organising a guided tour in the National Gallery.
The National Gallery presents a selection of major works related to the Franciscan theme. Each era and painter has captured different aspects depending on their own sensibilities and cultural moment. The tour will be led by Maurizio Patti, following a path from Jacopo di Cione to Francisco de Zurbaran.
A donation of £20 is suggested to support the activities of the cultural society.
The event is intended for adults only and is not suitable for children.
